End-of- year wrap up! Help please!

Bonjour,
6 more days of school! Hard to believe that summer is around the corner.  Just a few bits of info for the next few days:
  1. We are still in need of 2 parent-volunteers to join us Friday to Shining Waters... if you are free, your admission is free! we'd love your help. Just send us a note in your child's agenda.
  2. Freezie order must have been placed by Tuesday (1$) in order to get them later in the week.
  3. Books:  Please have a look around your house, under your beds and sofas for any class books that may have gone astray.  I'd really like to round up all these books by week's end.  Thank you for your support with this endeavour.
  4. School supplies: I'll begin sending home workbooks, supplies etc... this Friday. On Monday, you may wish to pack a plastic bag for the overflow.
  5. Wednesday is Fun Day  at  Elm Street.  Children will be outside all morning so please apply sunscreen in the morning and send appropriate clothing. Check school website for lunch details for this special day.
Since our book launch (which was so successful! Thank you for supporting us!), the 2C authors have been on tour, reading their books to grades 1,2,4,5, and 6 students! They've become local celebrities.  Tuesday, they will be taking their books home. They can't wait!

Take care of each other,
Mme Carolyn

Book launch

Yay! We are authors of the non-fiction collection entitled Je m'appelle...
For the last month, students have been working very hard, researching, writing, editing and publishing their texts on animals.  Please come and join us for the collection launch next Thursday (June 14th)between 11-12 am in our classroom.  It is an Open House so pop in when it is convenient for you.  Students will be on hand to share their experiences and  read their books. Pass it along to Grammie and Grampie as everyone is welcome!  Hope to see you!

Non- fiction writing project

Bonjour!
I apologize for the lack of posts lately.  I hope you are all well. I just wanted to inform you  of our upcoming writing project. As part of our curriculum, your child is preparing to write and publish a non- fiction book about an animal.  During this project, your child will follow the writing process and become familiar with research based writing.

The first step is to collect information.  We will begin doing this in school however, I could use your support at home to help enrich our project.  Here is how you can help:
  • Firstly, ask your child which animal he/she is researching.  (Students will be working in groups of 3 or 4.)
  • Browse the Internet and print off relevant information and photos.
  • Visit our local libraries to find books on the animal your child is researching.
  • Read aloud these books to your child, highlighting key information.
  • Watch special t.v. shows pertaining to your child's animal.
  • Share your personal knowledge.
I appreciate your support and I would encourage you to begin as soon as possible.  This is a 3 week project.

Thanks for your support!
Take care of each other,
Madame Carolyn

Family literacy day at Elm Street

What an incredible morning we all had celebrating literacy!  Be sure to ask your child to share what sessions they attended!  Here is a photo of Luke's dad, Dave reading to our class. Thanks again Dave for joining us. It was a pleasant surprise.
Take care everyone and happy literacy day!

Literacy celebration

Happy New year, bonne année et Gung Hay Fat Choy everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that this Friday we are having a school wide literacy celebration all morning.  Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite character from a book or in their pyjamas.  They will be  spending time with students from all grade levels, English and French Immersion, rotating between literacy centers throughout the school. Teachers are organizing a variety of rich literacy based activities using a wide range of media.  It should be  a great morning for everyone. We can't wait! Don't forget to ask your child about it!
Take care of each other!
