Festival de la citrouille! Pumpkin festival!

Happy Halloween everyone!
Just wanted to let you know about the Pumpkin festival going on October 20th- 30th at the Belle- Alliance (The French Community center) in Summerside.  There are many activities going on in French for anyone interested.  We sent home a flyer last week with all the information however neglected to add that our students have contributed Art work for the exhibit.  Our class has 2 pieces! Ask your child about the haunted house we made with our literacy buddies and the tree made with M. Terry!
Also, do note that this Saturday (the 29th) there will be special activities for children from 10h30-11h30: crafts, face painting games and more! Do join in the fun! It would be a great time to see the Art work and to take in some French culture.
Have a safe Halloween week!

October news from 2C

Hello 2C family!
I hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather! It is inspiring us to be reading, talking, singing, drawing and writing about the season: the leaves, the harvest, the holidays and the animals in class!

We had our first "Show and Tell" on Friday and students were indeed very excited to learn about the different objects.  Thank you for supporting your child, reviewing  and practicing the sentences in the purple duotang.  It made all the difference in the presentations.

Just a few bits of information to help with homework at home and with the daily routines in class:
  1.  Ortho means spelling. Each night students are expected to practice their list words. On Mondays they are expected to copy the words into their agenda and then throughout the week, practice spelling them.  On Fridays, I usually give a dictée where they show what they have learned.  You will see this in your child's yellow duotang that comes home on Mondays.
  2. Site words (the purple pages in the yellow duotang): These words are common site words that your child should be able to read. Combined, they make up 50% of any written text.  If your child can read these, it will make tackling  a new text much easier.  Please practice these as they are not yet mastered by all students.
  3. Printing:  We have been working hard practising proper letter formation in printing.  After Christmas, we will be introducing cursive writing therefor it is imperative that printing be mastered. A reminder that all letters except the letter "e" begin from the top down.  If you could please help us with this at home, watching while your child writes, it would be appreciated.
  4. Hot lunches:  When sending in money for lunches or milk, could you please indicate what lunch you are buying (ex: date and order or # and kind of milk). This will make our collection process more easier and more efficient  in class. We want to spend as much time teaching your child!
We are noticing that our students are talking quite a bit more in French, using expressions and new vocabulary in class. We are very proud of the progress they are making. Don't hesitate to ask your child to share their day, and talk about their reading with you in French. Watch French TV and visit the PEI public library site, you will discover a link for Tumblebooks.  Here you can listen to great French and English books online, free!

Take care of each other,
Mme Carolyn and M. Terry
